September 24 Update

AKBAYAN ANNUAL

Hello, Akbayan members!

It’s Angelica here, your Vice President, and I’m here to promote and tell all of you about our Alumni magazine entitled Akbayan Annual! Akbayan Annual is a two-part online publication that premieres at the end of each semester.

The majority of Akbayan Annual centers on our organization’s alumni and their successes, triumphs, and stories of their post-college years. In addition to updating all of you on our alumni, a lengthy portion of the publication is dedicated to chronicling Akbayan events from the past semester, whether it’s through editorials, pictures, collages, and other forms of artistic expression. As I’m sure you all know, the alumni of any institution, school, or organization served and continue to serve as the guidance, foundation, and pillars of tradition. In Akbayan, we recognize the importance of granting unending appreciation to our alumni and all of their contributions. One way of showing our gratitude is by producing a magazine that highlights Akbayan’s events and the accomplishments of our alumni.

We pride ourselves in maintaining close relations with our alumni; we want them to always feel welcomed at any Akbayan event! Throughout this upcoming year, we hope that all of you (our general members) will also be able to establish friendships with many of Akbayan’s alumni.

Akbayan Annual is going to be semester-long project. Committee meetings for Akbayan Annual will begin the first week of October. If you’re interested in helping out please let me know!

DECEMBER 18th, 2008

Here’s a couple pictures from the Akbayan Alumni Dinner that was celebrated on December 18th, 2008. The Alumni came to catch up on Akbayan’s latest happenings, eat free, unlimited deliciousness, and most importantly hang out with old friends along with the company of Fresh Cab. Thank you to all the alumni who came out, hopefully you had fun! More pictures will be coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled for more crazy group photos!

AKBAYAN’S ALUMNI

A group that is especially cherished by our organization is our alumni. The alumni have not only gone through the same experiences as the general members today, but have more importantly shaped Akbayan into what it is today: a well rounded social, political, cultural, and academic organization. To thank the alumni, we always extend an open invitation to all who wish to stop by our events. Admittance to most of our activities are free of any charge.

Alumni,
We hope to see you at our general meetings, socials, and anything else you may be interested in attending. Whether we’re throwing a picnic or going ice skating, the charge is on us! Know that although you may graduate from college, there will always be a place for you in Akbayan!

The First Annual Alumni Project

This year, Akbayan is starting what is tentatively known as the Alumni Project! This annual online publication will chronicle all of what Akbayan has done over the year, and will feature articles of various alumni in a “Where are they now” fashion. Alumni are encouraged to write articles about their lives and careers after graduation and their recollections of Akbayan. Also, alumni may advertize their business or place relavent classifieds in the publication free of charge, exposing their ads to all of the current Akbayan members. The project’s main goal is to unify the past and present members of Akbayan, creating connections and networks, and recognizing our cherished alumni.

Alumni, be ready for the many reunions we have planned for the 2008-2009 school year!
